The Mobile-First Checklist for Trade Websites
Tap targets, sticky calls, load speed and pricing cues — everything a phone visitor needs in under 5 seconds.
Over 70% of local service searches happen on a phone. Your site isn't 'mobile responsive' until it's mobile-first — designed on the small screen before the desktop one.
Tap targets at least 48×48 pixels
Thumbs are bigger than mice. Buttons, links and form fields need generous hit areas.
Sticky call button
The phone number should follow the visitor down the page. Not a floating chat widget — an actual dial button.
Form fields that fit
Short forms, big inputs, numeric keyboards for phone numbers, no unnecessary fields.
Readable type without zoom
Minimum 16px body text. Line length 40–60 characters. High contrast.
Speed first
Aim for under 1.5 seconds to first contentful paint on 4G. Every extra second costs conversions.
